About the future of higher education

All-Russian scientific-methodological conference (with international participation) "The university complex as a regional center for education, science and culture" was held at the OSU from January 30 to February 1.

During three days of its operation more than 900 people from Russia and Ukraine discussed almost 700 reports on the current issues of education development in conditions of new law "On Education in Russian Federation" introduction and state programs for the development of education and science.

The Plenary meeting was opened by OSU Rector Vladimir Kovalevskiy. Congratulated the participants with the conference start and wished them fruitful work, Vladimir Petrovich presented report "The university complex as innovative educational center of the region". He noted that the university complex under present conditions should play an important role of integrating center, becoming the most important social institution that provides stable and balanced development of economy, social sphere and culture of regional community.

The session was continued by Irina Apikhtina, Head of methodological control of educational content and organization of educational process of State Policy Department for Higher Education in Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. She talked about the changes in higher education system in connection with enactment of the new Federal Law "On Education in the Russian Federation" on the 29^th of December, 2012.

Also the members of plenary meeting discussed the role of academic associations of classical universities in determining the content of higher education and maintaining the national educational environment in the Russian Federation. The Report on this subject was made by Eugenia Karavaeva, Deputy Vice-rector of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, and Executive Director of Russian Classical Universities’ Association.

The Problems discussion of education advancement was continued at the session meetings and three roundtable conferences.
