The annual Week of English Language, dedicated to 450-anniversary of the great playwright William Shakespeare was presented in OSU. During this week on the 23rd of April students of Philology Faculty and pupils of Orenburg schools have created performances based on oeuvre of William Shakespeare.

The pupils of gymnasiums № 1, 5 and students of Philology Faculty performed famous tragedies and comedies of English poet. The audience had the unique opportunity to see the world of Shakespeare’s period.

The schoolboys of gymnasium № 5 presented the famous “scene on the balcony” where Romeo confesses his love to Juliet and the part from “Othello” tragedy — where Moor kills his wife Desdemona.

The competition of English sonnets reading and translation of Shakespeare’s works completed by students of English Philology and Methods of English Language Teaching Department was conducted at the end of the event. On this day winners of essay contest on “Absolute Shakespeare” theme were also awarded.

Many workshops, quizzes on William Shakespeare’s creativity prepared by support of British council in Russia and presentation of PR-projects “Great William Shakespeare” were conducted during the English Language Week. Anyone could also watch movies based on William Shakespeare such as “Romeo and Juliet”, “Anonym”, “Shakespeare in Love” and “Merchant of Venice”.
