New Place of Botanic Garden

Recently OSU botanic garden moved on the new place — Tereshkova Street.

The last lot of plants transferred on the main (now the only one) territory of botanic garden with more than 24 ha. Besides plants the baby carps and wild carps domesticate a new home — small water pond of 3,5 meters deep shoveled for them.

Outlines of tree nursery appear clearly on the ex ground of factory — there are equal rows of trees plantings, grouped by types, Alpine garden with waterfall and meadow with still bloomy chrysanthemums.

— More than thousand different kinds of plants are set in the botanic garden. During autumn planting period the field of roses was extended: more than 100 sorts are planned to garden. Fruticetum — field of ornamental bushes with more than 80 kinds and sorts of plants, and coniferetum — coniferous field 50 types are appeared. Place of maples with about 50 taxonomic categories is filled. In general 13 collection groups are placed on the territory of botanic garden, — Director of OSU Botanic Garden Valeriy Novikov told.

He explained that most part of plants landed in spring was survived in spite of dryness. Valeriy leads to believe that new settlers will winter successfully.

Tree nursery will occupy 9 ha on the new territory — this place will be ground for scientific activities, the rest area will provide park zone and the staff of botanic garden will grow up plants for a park.

Botanic garden will become one of the most beautiful resting places in Orenburg — blossoming from May till September, with Alpine garden, Asian and European corners of tree and bush plants, and other sights.

— We lost nothing, but we got a lot of positive things thanks to our moving. We will be able to organize collections of various plants including rare for our region here. It will give good prospects for realization of successful scientific activity. Besides, the essential changes were made to the staff list — two scientific staff positions were set for the purpose of research activity intensification. The laying of administrative building is planned this year. With its operation the botanic garden will have all necessary infrastructures — Valeriy Novikov considers.
