On June 6 OSU held the meeting between students and teachers of the OSU Aerospace Institute (AI) and Sergei Podtikhov, representative of the Yuzhny Space Center (the branch of the Center for Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities Operation of the Baikonur Cosmodrome).
The students got acquainted not only with the story of the construction of the cosmodrome, but also learned about some successful and unsuccessful flights to low-Earth orbit, as well as preparation technology the aircraft to launch. The lecturer also talked about the most relevant and up to date training programs. While working at the Baikonur Cosmodrome Sergei Podtikhov has acquired eight additional space-related occupations.
At the end of the lecture the audience poseed some questions to the lecturer. They were interested in the future fate of the Baikonur as its location is in another country. Students were also excited about the possibilities to have pre-graduation practice at the cosmodrome and combine work and studies, as well as to service in the army when working there.
Sergei Podtikhov assured that within the next 40 years the cosmodrome will function as the main dispatch center for Russia's aircrafts and it is ready to welcome new specialists. He added that OSU administration has already been working on cooperation agreement on internships, excursions and graduate employment at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
