On February 13 OSU Faculty of Philology hosted a holiday of history and poetry dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Budapest liberation from German troops.

This date marked a turning point in World War II. An incredible heroic feat of Russian soldiers was in the focus of the evening. Students performed military songs and theatrical sketches that told how this terrible event had changed the lives of a huge number of ordinary people and families.

Maria Kononova, a first year Master degree student who participated in the performance, shares her emotions: “We would like to show how this war destroys the life of an entire family. No mercy, but still there is hope. I wish that hope never leaves the hearts of people. And let us not forget what charity, compassion and love are. This is one of the lessons that we have learned from the life experience of previous generations; they were people who like us believed in the future, hoped for the better and cherished love in their hearts.”

The tragic poetry and its emotional reading by the students made it possible for the attendees to feel the heavy burdens of the war time.

At the end of the evening Dr. Irina Solodilova, Dean of OSU Faculty of Philology, expressed her admiration to how the students demonstrated respect and awe to the events of our common history.
