As part of the “Atom is near” contest, its six winners from Orenburg visited the closed atomic city of Sarov. Two of the delegates were students from OSUš— Vlada Arkhireeva and Andrey Skopintsev.

The “Atom is near” contest was held under the support of Rosatom State Corporation through Julyš6š— Septemberš10. The contest’s participants recorded a video with stories about the peaceful use of atomic energy and its impact on modern industries and the people who discovered the potential of atom.

In the atomic city, students visited theNuclear Weapons Museum and learnt the history of the Soviet nuclear program. One of the museums exhibits is the “Tsar Bomb”š— a thermonuclear aircraft bomb designed in the USSR by a group of nuclear physicists under the leadership of the academician Igor Kurchatov. The Tsar Bomb is the most powerful manufactured explosive device in the history of mankind. The Museum also has a control panel used to launch the first Soviet nuclear test-weapons on Augustš29, 1949 in Semipalatinsk test site.
