Scientists of the OSU Research Institute for History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals under the guidance of Director Venaliy Amelin have started to study social image of migrants in Orenburg region.

Necessity of such work was dictated by changes in communal situation of the region under influence of migration processes. Long living in Orenburg region nations have cumulated a substantial potential of intercultural collaboration in the spirit of tolerance in their interethnic communication. At the same time they come across new citizensš— Tajiks, Uzbeks, Kirgiz people, Meskhetian Turks, Armenian and other nations. Set of mina and cultural and social features of these nations turned out to be unusual for local people.

Scientists plan to conduct a social research, in frames of which 500špeople will be questioned (firstly, schoolchildren from families of other culture migrants, their parents, and also migrant workersš— Moslems). Besides that, it is planned to organize 30šexpert interviews with chiefs of educational institutions, employees of Center for Migrants Adaptation (Orenburg city), chiefs of Islamic religious organizations, heads of national and cultural social associations representing ethnic communities of Central Asian and Caucasian regions that traditionally practice Islam.

Analysis of the received results will allow revealing positive practices of migrants’ adaptation and integration in Orenburg society, and also reasons and factors that promote religious radicalization of migrant community’s part.
