Venaliy Amelin, director of the OSU Research Institute of the History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals met with security theoreticians and practitioners to discuss terrorist threats and ways to combat international terrorism.

The Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan held the International Conference “Combating Terrorism and Extremism in Eurasia: Common Threats and Joint Experience”. The conference welcomed the ambassadors of Russia, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, the staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the heads of the Central Asian strategic research institutes, the State Duma deputies.

The participants named internal threats in the countries of Central Asia and defined the cultivation of religious extremism as one of them. The conference participants have expressed the need to use the system of joint efforts to counteract the destructive Daesh ideology (Daesh or ISIS, is a terrorist group banned on the territory of the Russian Federation) and to intensify the contact with young people, who are foremost exposed to extremist propaganda.
