Hiroshima University: new knowledge and impressions

Orenburg State University students returned from Hiroshima University Summer School (Japan).

The project was sponsored by JASSO, a Japanese organization for international students support. The OSU Japanese Information Center assisted OSU students to get a grant. With the financial support of the grant Andrey Doroshkevich, Vladislav Savinov and Alexey Khomov immersed for 9 days in studying supramolecular chemistry, infrared spectroscopy, astrophysics, biology, Japanese language and other subjects in English. They visited numerous laboratories of the University of Hiroshima and were observing the Moon, the Jupiter and even the unusual double star, which is now actively studied by scientists, with the help of one of the most powerful telescopes in the world, Kanata. Both educational and cultural activities of the program of stay were supervised by the Director of the School, Professor of Hiroshima University Rio Sekiya.

Students also visited the Micron Technology factory, where semiconductor products are designed and manufactured: DRAM and NAND memory chips, flash memory, SSDs, as well as CMOS sensors, etc. At the Mazda Museum, students saw the legendary Mazda 787B racing car, the first and only car with a rotary piston engine, which won the race “24 Hours of Le Mans” in 1991.

Students also visited the sacred island of Miyajima with the oldest, more than 14 centuries, Shinto temples in Japan.

Next year Orenburg State University plans to open the Hiroshima University Centre on its premises. This event will be another milestone in the development of long-term relations between educational institutions in Japan and OSU.
