Recently Tashkent, Uzbekistan housed an International scientific conference "Echelons go east. Evacuation to Uzbekistan during WW2". The OSU Research Institute of History and Ethnography of the Southern Urals acted as co-organizer from the Russian side.

The participants of the conference were academicians and educators from Uzbekistan (Tashkent, Samarkand, Andijon) and Russia (Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Orenburg). Shavkat Sharipov, Rector of Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. He stated that the conference was the second one for the year as a part of cooperation agreement signed by Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University and OSU in 2018. Shavkat Sharipov reminded that since the very beginning of WW2 thousands of Uzbekistan people had volunteered to be soldiers and to be sent to the battle fields.

Victor Shulika, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Uzbekistan Republic told about a growing interest to WW2 heritage among the Uzbekistan people. He also appreciated the activeness of Uzbekistan youth in an international contest "Our heroes" (“Nashi geroi"). Ravilya Khisamutdinova, Head of Orenburg State Pedagogical University Department of History and Methodology of Teaching History and Social Studies recalled that during WW2 the Uzbekistan Republic had sheltered residents of eighty nine evacuated orphanages. The kids were taken under patronage by labour collectives and communal farms, and a lot of orphans were massively adopted by local families. Totally, Uzbekistan residents took a family care to more than 4 500 orphans of various nationalities.
